SUBURBAN MATCH AT SYDENHAM

With a lead of 176 runs at the end of the second day’s play, the Christchurch suburban side is in a doubtful position in its annual match against a Wellington Mercantile League team, being played at Sydenham Park. Wellington still has its second innings to play and Christchurch’s bowlers will have to be on top form for thg side to gain an outright win. The match, which is for the Fitzgerald Shield, held at present by Christchurch Suburban, has been even throughout. In its first innings, the home team scored a total of 177. Wellington replied with a first innings total of 163. Yesterday, Christchurch Suburban concluded its second innings for 162, leaving Wellington a whole day in which to get 177 runs for an outright win. Scores were:— CHRISTCHURCH First Innings B. The outbreak was extinguished by the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade.
