BEATTIE CUP CONTEST
Canterbury Has Two Wins (New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, January 2. Hutt Valley, one of the top associations in New Zealand, lost one of its two games, 3-1, to Waikato when the first two rounds of the national provincial men’s softball championships for the Beattie Cup were played at Rotorua today under perfect conditions. Other leading associations. Wellington. Auckland, and Canterbury, were all unbeaten. Wellington won 16-0 against King Country and 11-1 against Rawke’s Bay. Auckland beat Waikato, 10-CX and trounced Rotorua, 21-3. Canterbury just headed Hawke’s Bay, 6-5, ana overwhelmed King Country, 19-G. Hutt Valley won its other match against Wanganui 15-6. In the other two matches played, Rotorua accounted for Manawatu 65. and Wanganui beat Manawatu 19-8. The tournament will continue til) Friday, with the final on Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon New Zealand will play The Rest.
