BODIES FOUND IN MINE

Two Men Trapped After Explosion (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MORGANTOWN (West Virginia), December 29. Rescue teams late last night reached the bodies of two miners trapped for more than 15 hours after an explosion in a mine about 1600 feet underground about 30 miles east of Morgantown. Rescuers, hampered by deadly gas fumes and a mine ceiling of 58 inches, reached the entombed men shortly before midnight after digging through tons of rock and dirt. The rescue teams had to leave the mine several times to replenish the oxygen supply of their gas masks. The state mines director (Mr Crawford Wilson) said the cause of the gas ignition that caused the explosion was not yet known. An investigating party will inspect the mine later today.
