Yachting HOBART RACE END NEAR
Kurrewa IV In Lead (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) HOBART, December 30. The Victorian cutter, Kurrewa IV, is almost certain to take line honours in the Sydney-Hobart ocean race and should finish this evening. Tasman Island lighthouse has reported sighting Kurrewa IV and she has been three hours trying to get round the island with hardly any breeze. Tasman Island is 40 miles from the finish. The New South Wales cutter, Solo, is farther out to sea in second place, and the Victorian Astor, the largest yacht in the race, is third somewhere between Tasman Island and Freycinet Peninsula.
The southerly change expected by the Weather Bureau this afternoon has still not come, and until it comes the leading yachts are wallowing in the calm. There is no chance of any records in this race.
