Thomas was the highlight of New South Wales’ first innings score of 375 for 7 at stumps on the first day of the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria. Thomas, who has been out of form so far this year, batted at his brilliant best to score 103. P. Philpott, playing for New South Wales for the first time since his return from England, was 84 not out at stumps. He, too, batted very well. The best bowler for Victoria was A. Connolly, who took three for 65
