About 9000 spectators with 2500 beach umbrellas lined the banks of Lake Karapiro today to watch the Australasian speedboat championships. It was the largest crowd at the lake since the Empire Games rowing contests. The contest, over a 10-mile course, saw the holder. Mystic Miss, retain the title. The North Island D<C.A. class outboard hydro championship was won brilliantly by the Hamilton entry Heckle, owned by K. Bowden and driven'by W. Lee. F. E. Gatland, in Widget, won the Carl Augustin trophy for the midget championship and Jimmy Cee (R. Whitwell, Kawerau) took the North Island unlimited vee-bottom championship.
