TO INVESTIGATE MURDERS

13 Detectives Selected For Training (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 15. Thirteen of New Zealand’s top detectives will form the Dominion’s first murder squad early in the New Year, the chief of the Criminal Investigation Branch (Detective Chief Superintendent F. N. Aplin) said yesterday. The men will have a fortnight of lectures and instruction on every aspect of murder investigation at the police training school at Tren|ham beginning on January 30. Those who will attend the course are Detective Senior Sergeant W. Chalmers, Detective Sergeants L. G. Schultz, R. J. Walton (all Auckland), Detective Senior Sergeants D. J. Dwan (Rotorua). F. A. Gordon (Palmerston North), A. I. Knapp (New Plymouth), Detective Sergeants A. T. Baker, A. H. Hart (both Wellington), W. E. Hollinshead (Christchurch), ER. Tyson (Dunedin), B. H. Constable (Gisborne) and W. T. Cook (Napier). Mr Aplin said another detective Would be selected from Christchurch.

Mr Aplin and other selected C. 1.8. commissioned officers will lecture at the course. Dr. P. P. Lynch, a pathologist, and Dr. J. O. Mercer, deputy-medical superintendent at Wellington Hospital. will also lecture, and speakers will include senior members of the DS.I.R. and Mental Hygiene Division, Department of Health.

It is hoped Sir Vincent Meredith. of Auckland, will give an address on murder investigation.
