PASSION PLAY COSTUMES
Materials Needed For 200 Actors
A passion play with a cast Of: 200 will be produced in Christ-1 church in the week before Easter next year. The play, “The Way of the Cross,” will be presented by the combined efforts of all the churches in Christchurch and will be produced by Mrs Mary Clarke who produced a similar play in Tirnaru for that city’s Centenary. The wardrobe mistress (Mrs H. J. Eaton) is making arrangements to collect sufficient materials for costumes for the 200 actors. She is asking for old sheets and sheeting (no matter how old or patched) which' will later by dyed in suitable Shades. Striped materials are also needed, old pyjamas, flecked or tweedy materials; materials with patterned stripes in abstract or geometrical designs and woven patterned materials with the design in self-colour such as furnishing fabrics. Old felt hats of any shade will also be most welcome as these will provide helmets fo "Romans.” “C.0.R.5.0. has allowed us the use of its rooms in Gloucester street up till the end of January and parcels could be left there,” said Mrs Eaton.
The designer of the costumes for the play is Mrs B. Kaiser who has had considerable experience in this field in religious drama and in ballet in England. All the actors in the Christchurch production will remain anonymous.
