Eight To Come To Titles

Eight young players who have been sponsored by other associations will take part in the Canterbury championships which will be held at Wilding Park beginning on Boxing Day. The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association has been advised that M. Christison and B. Taylor, of Wellington, will be sponsored by the Wellington association. As well, the New Zealand association is sponsoring six players to attend the Canterbury, South Canterbury, and New Zealand championships. they are: G. Kelly (Manawatu), D. Heatherbell (Nelson). R. Callender (Wellington), J. Taylor (Hutt Valley), K. Baddiley (Wellington), and J. Anderson (Wallington).

Christison and B. Taylor won the under 17 doubles title at the national junior championships last January. Kelly was runner-up in the under 19 doubles, Heatherbell reached the quarter-finals of the under 19 singles, Callender and Anderson reached the under 19 singles quarter-finals, Baddiley got to the third round of the under 19 singles and paired with L. Walpole, of Canterbury, in the doubles, and J. Taylor did particularly well to get to the semifinals of the under 19 singles where he los* to R. Clarke, the eventual winner of the title.
