AWAPUNI WORK
No Boots In Good Trial “The Press 1 ' Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, Dec. 15. No Boots ran a smart half-mile trial at Awapuni today in preparation for the Fitzherbert Handicap on Saturday. She beat Green Rose very easily. Truro dashed over five furlongs on the plough with Double Gain, and Doradeb, Holiday, Samsi and Extra Dry were others to draw attention to their chances at the week-end. Work took place both on the course proper and the plough and tracks were fast. It appears Palmerston North will have a spell of sunny weather and the track on Saturday will be hard and fast. No Boots (Aitken) drew right away from Green Rose (Ryan) at the end of half a mile in 48 4-ssec. No Boots worked most impressively and it looked a winning trial for the second leg. Samsi (Ryan) easily beat Bagush (Aitken), Flockhart (Hemopo) and Lordly Knight (Foster), which finished in that order, over half a mile in 52 l-ssec, the last three in 39 l-ssec. Samsi faces strong opposition in the Juvenile Handicap, but she is very smart. Silver Pelt (Taylor) and Allanah (Watson) ran brilliantly over three furlongs in 36sec. Silver Pelt is also in the Juvenile Handicap, but might require a race. Arikitoa (Clements) was shaded by Dolly Gilpin (Griffen) at the end of half a mile in 52sec. Repute (Stoodley) and El Ganador (Collins) galloped from the three in 37 3-ssec with El Ganador holding a slight edge. He is fit for the Tararua Hack Handicap. Maid of the Oaks (Clements) was not hurried over five furlongs in Imin llsec. the last three in 40sec. She will be out of her depth in the Eulogy Stakes. Many Thanks (Taylor) ran easily over half a mile in 54sec, the last three in 40sec. Colchis (Mullane) and Solepic (O’Neill) were well matched over six furlongs in Imin 20 3-ssec, thee last three in 39 3-ssec. This was a good effort and both horses look ready for bold races on Saturday. Soiepic, in particular, is sure to go well in the Fitzherbert Handicap.
