ATHLETICS ON SUNDAY
Petone Decision Affirmed
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 14.
The Pefone Amateur Athletic Club intends to continue with plans for holding the Laykold Cup meeting on Sunday. This was decided at the club’s meeting tonight, It had been reported that the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association had ordered the Wellington centre to see that the meeting was not held.
Discussion at tonight's meeting centred on the formal approval of the Wellington centre to the holding of the meeeting. Members held that no formal instructions to the contrary had been received from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. It was said that the club did not support Sunday sport generally, but might lose £2OO to £3OO if the cup meeting, postponed last Saturday because of rain, was not held. The matter was referred for decision to a sub-committee formed for that purpose, and it was decided to carry on with the project
