Advertisement For Lost Parrot
After reading in “The Press” that Ruby Eileen McLelland, of 319 Worcester street, had lost her parrot, a man went to the address, said he had the parrot and took a reward of £4, said Sergeant V. F. Townshend in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Roy Colin Tucker pleaded guilty to a charge of being a rogue and vagabond in that be obtained £4 by falsely representing he had found the parrot. On this, and three charges of breaches of the Post Office Act by giving fictitious messages over the telephone, he was remahded to 'December 22 for sentence by Mr E. A. Lee, S.M. On October 21, said Sergeant Townshend, Tucker telephoned a number advertised in “The Press” and said he had found a watch. He was told to post the watch to an address and a reward would be returned.
He repeated the offence again on October 26 and 27 when he answered advertisements for a lost brooch and watch.
