CHRISTMAS TABLEAU
Nativity Scene In Square
A Nativity scene will be erected by the Catholic Youth Movement on the Transport Board’s ticket office in Cathedral square, and the Municipal Electricity Department will provide the lighting for it. These decisions have been made by a sub-committee of the City Council.
The sub-committee was appointed after the movement had applied for permission to erect Christmas tableaux on the bus shelter near the Bank of New Zealand and at the Christchurch airport terminal building. The airport site has been rejected by the sub committee,- as there is a Christmas tree in the air terminal building as the central part of a display to attract contributions to the Crippled Children Society. As an alternative, the movement has been offered two outside sites on the top of buildings where they could be seen by all visiting the airport.
