The Christchurch Bowling Centre was able to complete the representative games against North Otago for the Barnett Tiki on the Fendalton green on Saturday. The afternoon games had just concluded when rain began again. Christchurch retained the ■ trophy with a margin of 69 'points on the aggregate of the morning and afternoon games. Eight fours from North Otago met eight local fours in the morning and then the southern representatives met another eight Christchurch fours in the afternoon. Since the trophy was first played for »in 1943 Christchurch has won 11 times and. North Otago seven times. At the ' beginning, Christchurch won for seven years in succession. North Otago took command and. after winning it back I in 1954, held it for six years until Christchurch retrieved it last year. Last year was one of the most successful for the Christchurch Centre. It won every representative fixture it played. Heavy Greens The North Otago players were at a great disadvantage on Saturday because of heavy greens. In Oamaru the greens are weed surfaces and exceptiohally fast. Ten days of wet weather made the Fendalton green very heavy On the early heads the visitors tried to draw round other bowls, which was impossible, for the bowls were taking no draw and were running almost straight up to the head. After seven heads Christchurch led 57-45. After 14 heads it had increased its lead to 112-90 and finished the games with a margin of 55 points. In the early heads the local players were also finding the green very difficult but were able to adapt themselves to the conditions much quicker than their opponents. In the afternoon it was again over the concluding stages that North Otago dropped back. At the end of seven heads it was leading 51-50, but at the end of 14 heads it was down 84-125. Over the last seven heads North Otago came back into the game and reduced the Christchurch lead to 14. Good Win A. Anderson (North Otago) had a good win in his morning game when he beat L. T. Booth (Christchurch), 26-12. In his afternoon game against J. A. Dale (Christchurch) he had a very even game up to the eighteenth head when the score was 13-all. Over the last three heads Anderson scored four points to give him his second win. C. Tregoning was another North Otago skip who registered two wins. In his first game in the morning against K. Samms he was trailing at the eighth head but then went into the front and after the sixteenth head when the score was level 11-all he forged ahead to win 20-16. In his afternoon game against J. Crawford, the scoring was fairly even to the sixteenth end when the score was 14-14. From then Christchurch failed to score again and the North Otago four took its total to 25 over the remaining five heads. In the morning games, Christchurch won six to North Otago’s two but in the afternoon honours were even when both won four games. Results were (Christchurch names first): — Morning Gaines. —N.
