LIBRARIES FOR CHILDREN
Government Support
Urged
The Government should be urged to support children’s libraries, which were just as important as sports. The annual meeting of the committee of the Sir John McKenzie Memorial Children’s Library decided this after considering the statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Anderton) that the Government should subsidise sports to help curb juvenile delinquency. The annual report of the president of the committee (Mrs M. A. Fazackerley) said that the membership of the library had risen to 1500 children. During the year 1500 new, books had been purchased, and 25,700 books had been issued. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs M. A. Fazackerley: vice-president, Mrs A. Mills; secretary, Mrs V. Clarke: treasurer, Mrs E. BritnelL Ijt was decided that the librarians should form the committee, a system used in previous years.
