Spastic Wins Award For Speech
(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, Dec. 9.
Mr Garry Butler, a severely handicapped spastic, this week won the Wanganui Junior Chamber’s Harris Cup for a prepared speech. Mr Butler, who is 26, is confined to a wheel chair. He is hesitant in his daily speech but long hours of training gave him. a wellmerited win over good competition.
The president (Mr John Souter) said today, “He certainly didn’t get the decision on the sympathy vote.”
