Avonside Girls’ High School

“It was my privilege to be called to serve this school just on the eve of a period of progressive change in Christchurch postprimary administration and exciting development on the ‘Avonside’ property.’’ said the retiring headmistress of the Avonside Girls’ High School (Miss V. F. Townsend) in her . annual report presented at the school’s prize-giving ceremony last evening. “An active part in both these creative ventures has been for me a truly thrilling and rewarding experience, and my association with persons of faith rnd foresight an inspiration. “For their wise and devoted guardianship of the school, as well as their care at all time for my personal welfare. I would express the deepest gratitude, and can do no more than wish for my successor the same rich experience in friendship and co-operation,” said Miss Townsend. “On this last occasion I address you thus—staff, pupils and parents—l wish you who hold the destiny and spirit of this fine young school in your care, the joy of going on from strength to strength in the service you will render to this community.” Prizes were presented as follows: Sports Trophies Athletics.—Junior Challenge Cup (presented by Miss K.
