FRIENDSHIP IN FLIGHT.—The National Airways Corporation’s first Friendship, ZK-BXA, which is due to begin service on the Auckland-Wellington-Christchurch route on December 22. The aircraft will be named Kuaka by Lady Isitt, wife of the chairman of the N.A.C., Sir Leonard Isitt, at a ceremony in Wellington on Monday. The high-wing, tricycle-undercarriage aircraft is pressurised and has Viscount-type windows. It can fly at 270 miles an hour with 36 to 40 passengers. The Friendship is 75ft 9in long, with a wingspan of 95ft 2in. It is powered by two Rolls-Royce Dart engines.
