“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, December 7. A valuable passenger disembarked from the vessel Port Phillip at Wellington recently was a male grey brindle Pekinese called Gobbie. Gobbie, who arrived from London, is valued at £3OO. Gobbie had as his companions during the voyage a Siamese cat', worth £6O; Blondie, a golden retriever bitch, two harrier hounds and a blue roan cocker spaniel. Also in the livestock category were 10 Landrace pigs from Ireland. Responsible for looking after the mixed consignment to New Zealand was an apprentice, Mr Peter Isherwood, who said that the animals behaved very well during the passage. .the reduced charge, was fined £7. On charges of exceeding 30 miles an hour with a provisional driver’s licence and exceeding 30 miles an hour with no safety helmet, he was fined £2 on each charge. He pleaded guilty. Evidence was . given by Traffic Officer L. B. Bolton, of checking Le Compte’s speed at 68 miles an hour, for half a mile, along Blenheim road on September 21« at 11.15 p.m. Le Compte had earlier attracted his attention by passing through the Sockburn roundabout at high speed, said Traffic Officer Bolton. In entering a plea of not guilty to the charge of driving at a speed dangerous, Mr Brockett submitted that there was nothing to show there was any danger to any other person.
