Obituary MRS LUCY HOGG
The death occurred in Christchurch last week of Mrs Lucy Hogg, who, for more than 50 years, had played a prominent part in public service. Born in Hobart in 1865, she was the eldest daughter of the Rev. Canon Francis Hudspeth. She became a schoolteacher at Officers’ College. Hobart. She studied German in Munich.
In 1903 her husband, the late Mr E. G. Hogg, was appointed mathematics master at Christ’s College, and from then Mrs Hogg turned her attentions to public welfare. During World War I she was active in the New Zealand Red Cross Society and this interest continued till her death. For some years she was president of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association and also of the Victoria League. Mrs Hogg had a remarkable physical energy to the end of her long and useful life. She is survived by her son (Mr F. G. Hogg, of Melbourne!, and her daughters (Miss Luey Hogg, who is headmistress of Woodford House, Havelock North, and Mrs S, J. A. Bent, of Cashmere).
