After the loss of the coastal vessel Holmglcn off Timaru last year, the Court of Inquiry into her loss m»de certain recommendations about the carrying of life-saving equipment by vessels trading on the coast. Benefiting from th* experience of the United Kingdom and other overseas countries, the Marine Department ha* now drawn up regulations to cover cargo vessels in the New Zealand home trade.
