A Northern Ireland immigrant to Victoria has answered the Returned Servicemen's League threat to expel him by surrendering his membership badge and six medals he won with the Royal Navy in World War 11. Mr Edward Mcßride, aged 43. a Victorian State Electricity Commission fitter and turner living at Moe, south-east of Melbourne. surrendered his badge and medals yesterday.

On Sunday night, he told television and radio audiences that, if elected at Victoria’s Higinbotham by-election, he would not take the oath of allegiance to the Crown.

He would take an oath of allegiance “to Australia.” Mr Mcßride. a republican, and delegate to the East Gippsland Trades and Labour Council. was told he would be expelled after 15 State league subbranches asked the league on Monday to expel him.
