“We are proud to acclaim the manner in which the foundation members have responded to this call of voluntary service. In doing so they have, westrust, built a foundation which will be maintained in the years that lie ahead,” said the president of the Friends of Princess Margaret Hospital (Mrs M. N. Curtis) in her first annual report. The sewing circle has made for the hospital 239 jug covers, 142 tray cloths, 36 cushion covers, an embroidered altar cloth, and a long chapel kneeler. Members also made garments for the sale of work.

The creche was staffed for six days each week. It. was opened on February 16, 1960, and up to October 31 had cared for 1300 children. Thanks were expressed in the report to firms which assisted with equipment, and to the 25 women who staffed the creche. Special thanks were given to the Girl Guides who had assisted at week-ends. Floral arrangements have been maintained in the vestibule of the hospital by the flower group. This group also places posies in the rooms of the preliminary training school nurses to welcome them when they first arrive.
