CANCER AND COMMUNISM

Conquest By 2000 A.D. Predicted

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 20 The Prime Minister of Israel (Mr David Ben-Gurion) predicts that by the year 2000 cancer will have been conquered, and the Soviet Union’s totalitarian Communist regime overthrown. Mr Ben Gurion made these and other predictions in reply to a list of questions sent to him by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. His reply was received after similar answers from other famous persons had been placed in a soecial time capsule installed in the union’s newlyexpanded House of Living Judaism. The capsule will be reopened and a microfilm of Mr Ben-Gurion’s prognostications will be added.

Mr Ben-Gurion said that without hesitation he could say that there would not be a third war involving the use of atomic bombs. “I am certain that neither the American people, the Russian people nor their leaders will take a step that is tantamount to self-destruction.” he wrote. It was possible that there would be a Jewish President of the United States within the next 40 years, “though I have grave apprehensions as to the attitude of the majoritv of Americans to the Jewish minority, in view of its high proportion of talented neople and its rapid economic and cultural advancement, which is out of all proportion to the numerical weight of the Jews in the United States.” Mr Ben-Gurion expressed the hope that within the next 20 or 30 years, the Soviet Union would become a free and democratic country. The large number of university graduates in the Soviet Union, who would number at least 25 or 30 million in 20 or 30 vears, would make continuation of a totalitarian or dictatorial recime impossible, he said. It might be assumed that China. India, the Soviet Union and the United States would be the foremost countries in the world bv the year 2000 if Indian unity did not disintegrate after Mr Nehru' “departs from the scene.”
