Boxing JOFRE KNOCKS OUT SANCHEZ
World Bantam-Weight Title Fight
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LOS ANGELES, Nov. 19. Eder Jofre, of Brazil, knocked out Eloy Sanchez, of Mexico, last night to win the vacated world bantamweight championship. The Brazilian received the worst of the sixth round shortly before the end came as Sanchez let loose a flurry of lefts and rights which drove him to the ropes. But Jofre cut loose with a vicious right to the jaw that dropped Sanchez to the canvas. The Mexican took the full count, stirring just as the referee. Mr M. Callahan counted 10. Both men weighed Bst 61b for the scheduled 15-round bout. Sanchez went down for a count of eight in the fifth round but got up to chase Jofre around the ring. He landed repeatedly in the first minute of the sixth round, bringing blood to Jofre’s nose and knocking out his mouthpiece.
