Moss, Rrabham To Clash (K.Z. Press Association —Copyright) RIVERSIDE (California), Nov. 20. The world champion. Jack Brabham, of Australia, and England’s Stirling Moss will renew their car racing rivalry today in the 50 miles Grand Prix of the United States. Moss yesterday won the coveted pole position by clocking a record Imin 54.45ec for one lan around the Riverside Raceway. He drove his black Lotus at an average of 102.5 miles an hour. Brabham, in a Cooper, recorded a time only 3-ssec slower than Moss to take second place among the qualifiers. Moss had set the lap record of Imin 54.65ec last Friday. Previously, the record was 2min, set a month ago. Bruce McLaren, of New Zealand, in a Cooper, also finished among yesterday’s ton 10 qualifiers. The others were Dan Gurney, of California, in a British 8.R.M., Joachim Bonnier, of Sweden, in a 8.R.M.. Jim Clark. John Surtees, and Innes Ireland, all of England, in Lotuses. Oliver Gendier. of Belgium, in a Coooer. and Tony Brooks, of England. also in a Cooper. Only one American car finished in the first 20 qualifiers. Chuck Daigh was eighteenth in a Scarab. In preliminary spins around the 3.275-mile track 15 of the 25 Formula I cars broke the old 2min mark. More than 20,000 dollars in prize money will be at stake.
