COUNTING OF VOTES
Kennedy Gains 49.86 Per Cent.

Counting in the United States Presidential election passed 68,000,000 votes today, with Mr John Kennedy leading Vice-Presa-dent Richard Nixon by 235.167. With only a few ballots in the record high vote still to be counted. an unofficial tabulation by United Press International was: Kennedy—33.926.961. Nix0n—33.691.794.
Of the total vote of 68.044.386. Mr Kennedy had 49.86 per cent.. Mr Nixon 49.51 per cent, and others 0.63 per cent.
Although Senator Kennedy failed to win a majority of all the votes cast for Presnden.t, he was certain of a minimum of 300 electoral votes—3l more than the bare majority necessary for election.
