RISE IN N.Z. POPULATION
Quarterly Report Of Statistician New Zealand had a population of 2,384,392 on September 30, 12,632 higher than on June 30, according to the quarterly report of the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). There are 1,198,563 males and 1,185,829 females, a difference of 12,734. The Maori population is 161,250,
of whom 81,991 are males and are females. During the quarter there were 9963 more births than deaths, an increase of 343 over the figure for the same period last year. Arrivals in the country since June 30 exceeded departures by 2669, an increase of 17 over the figures for the same period last year. The population of Western Samoa on September 30 was 107,941, while the population of Niue Island was 4877. The Cook Islands had a population of 18,174 on March 31, and on June 30 the Tokelau Islands had a population of 1929. The population figures for these Island territories and trust territories are not included in the figures for New Zealand.
