TAXI TRANSFERS TO INDIANS
Authority’s Ruling On Applications (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 20. Objections to the admission of two Indian taxi-drivers to membership of taxi companies operating in Wellington were heard beford the Wellington Metropolitan Licensing Authority. Spokesmen for the three companies submitted that their articles of registration allowed them to decline applications without having to give reasons. Counsel for the applicants said that unless specific reasons were given the companies had no right to oppose membership. The chairman of the authority. (Mr B. L. Dallard), ruled that for the time being the authority would relax its requirement for one of the applicants to join a company, and he would be permitted to operate independently. The decision in granting a taxi licence transfer to the other applicant was reserved.
