Licensing Poll

Sir, — I agree with B. G. Jones that there should not be booths on the streets encouraging us to vote continuance or for any special party. Does the Government pay these people for getting a few names on the electoral rolls? If so, it is quite wrong. Intoxicating drinks are responsible for too much these days—road dangers, stealing of cars and other property, crimes of'sex and violence, neglect of little children as well as real cruelty to them. At this time, with the elections so near, there ought to be a public outcry against all these, and the louder the better. The liquor trade can afford to advertise, loudly and seductively, for the sake of their profits. Cannot Christian people and really public-spirited citizens stage some sort of demonstration against all these evils? I suggest a procession day similar to the capping procession.—Yours, etc., ACTION. October 14, 1960.
