SALE OF MILK TRUCKS

Board To Keep Watch On Prices The prices placed on vehicles sold by vendors of milk rounds in the Christchurch Metropolitan area will be scrutinised by the Milk Board. Confirmation was requested of the board yesterday by the chairman (Mr W. E. Olds) of a suggestion that when e vehicle was offered on the sale of a round to the board the vendor be required to produce a warrant of fitness for the vehicle issued within one month of the sale. “This procedure will assist in ensuring; that the board’s interests are safeguarded when purchasing and subsequently reselling vehicles to new licensees,” said Mr Olds’s report. • “At least three persons in the last month have told me of the fantastic prices they have paid for vehicles,” said Mr W. J. Cowles. They had paid from £6OO to £7OO for trucks worth only half the amount. The only way was’ to have the trucks examined and valued by valuers, with an arbitrator. Both parties had to be protected, said the supervising officer (Mr A. P. Millthorpe). Mr G. W. Franks said that if warrants were obtained when vehicles were sold there would be less chance of any persons coming to the board if the trucxs broke down. “It could crack up after you drove out of the testing station after getting the warrant of fitness,” said Mr Cowles.
