CROSSING PACIFIC ON RAFT
Attempt By Three Americans
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) EUREKA, CALIFORNIA, Oct. 13. Three Americans attempting to sail across the Pacific Ocean to Australia in a raft called the Leaky Tiki were sighted late yesterday off Cape Mendocino, in northern California, the Coast Guard reported. The raft consists of two 24ft pontoons, decked and with a cabin, and is equipped with sail and an outboard motor. The men have food for three months and hope to drift most of the way to Australia, but are prepared to use the sails and motor if they must. They are Charles Aylen, aged 36, Donald Trawitzki, 35, and Jerry Ball, 26, all of Puyallup, Washington State.
