Licensing Bill, Equal Pay (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 14. The Government hopes to introduce a Licensing Amendment Bill in the House of Representatives next Tuesday, the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) said in tiie House this afternoon. "I had hoped to introduce the bill today, but something happened that made that impossible,” he said. Mr Nash gave no indication of the bill’s contents. He also announced that the Government would introduce a bill dealing with equal pay in the Public Service. Other bills to be introduced include a Milk Amendment Bill, Judicature Amendment Bill, Reserve Bank Amendment Bill, and a Chiropractors Bill. Mr Nash said the Chiropractors Bill would “probably be in a new form.” (There is already a Chiropractors Bill on the Order Paper which the Public Health Committee earlier recommended should, not be allowed to proceed.) Mr Nash said there might also be bills dealing with the Local Government Commission, penal institutions and juvenile delinquency. The decision to introduce a bill dealing with equal pay and a new Chiropractors Bill was apparently made after the Prime Minister’s return from New York. The Deputy-Prime Minister (Mr Skinner) did not mention these last Friday when he listed the bills still to be introduced. The introduction -of a bill on equal pay is understood to implement a discussion on the subject in the Labour caucus yesterday. The same day it was reported that public servants were planning a meeting of protest at the Government’s delay in introducing equal pay. Mr Nash told the House he did not think the session would end next week. He said he, thought it would run into the week after. The senior Opposition whip (Mr R. G. Gerard): If there is any really contentious legislation we might have to go into November.
