Sir William Mabane has been appointed chairman of the British Trave] Association for three rears from November 1. Sir William Mabane held several Ministerial posts between 1931 and 1945, including Minister of State at the Foreign Office in 1945.
Miss Ruth E. Bacon arrives in Wellington today to assume dutv at the United States Embassy as its counsellor. She succeeds Mr L. R. Higgs, who left last year She wiH be next in rank to the
Ambassador (Mr F. H. Russell) and should he be absent 'rom the country would act as Charge d’ Affaires.—(PA..)
