INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP
More Branches Of Mothers’Union An . increase of more than 500 members and" branches in the Mothers’ Union was reported at a recent meeting of the Mothers' Union council, in Christchurch/ The -speaker was Mrs A. K. Warren, who was re-elected Dominion president at the recent triennial meeting of the New Zealand Mothers' Union Dominion Council at Wellington. Mrs Warren also mentioned the increase of 63 Young' Wives’ Groups, and their 1500 new membets, since the last meeting of the Dominion Council. “If ever the work of our society—both for the individual and the community—were of vital importance, then surely it is today when so many strong forces are ranged against Christian marriage and family life." said Mrs Warren. “We must not rest content with the advance wfe see in the work of the Mothers' Union.”
Two guest speakers who addressed the meeting were Canon A. Charles, director of religious broadcasting and television programmes. and the Rev. L. Clements.
Canon Charles spoke of the opportunities and difficulties presented by radio and television, and reminded parents of their responsibilities for the effects of these media on their families.
Mr Clements spoke on marriage guidance, and described the present activities of the national committee which was recently appointed to promote this work, their educational programme and plans for training counsellors.
