HOUSES FOR BIG FAMILIES
Government Buying Some, Says Mr Fox (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. September 30. In the House of Representatives today Mr H. Johnstone (Opposition, Waipa) asked the Minister of Housing (Mr Fox) when the Government was going to implement its 1957 election promise of buying suitable houses for the use of big families.
.He referred to a report that the Maori welfare officer in Auckland had complained about the accommodation problem and that rents erf £lO a week were being charged for rooms in old houses at Freeman’s Bay. Mr Fox said the -Government was buying houses suitable for large and problem families but obviously houses could ’ not be bought for everyone who came along asking for them.
