LAST TRIP TO ISLANDS
•‘Banana Boat” Sails Today (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 30. Commonly known on the Auckland waterfront aj the “banana boat.” the 1211-ton Maul Pomare is due to sail for the Pacific Islands at 11 aun. tomorrow on what will probably be its last trip to the islands. ship, the 2750-ton Moan a Roa, is expected at Wellington on October 13 to replace the Maui Pomare, now'32 years old. Since it first began running to the Islands in 19?8. the Maui Pomare has made several hundred round trips to the Islands from Auckland. It usually calls at Rarotonga, Mangaia and Aitutaki for oranges, bananas and tomatoes, depending on what is available.
