New Directorate Formed
“The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, September 4. Because of the Army’s big reequipment programme a directorate of equipment has been formed at Army Headquarters, the Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly) said today. The new directorate will be concerned with the purchasing and issuing of quantities of new arms and equipment and will also conduct the detailed investigations necessary before equipment is bought. The first director of equipment will be Lieutenant-Colonel E. J. Manders, whose previous appointment was concerned with equipment purchases under the deputy quartermaster-general. His duties will include the -co-ordination of new equipment requirements and the maintenance of existing stocks.
