5000 SHEEP DIE IN BUSHFIRE
(JV.Z. Press Association—Copyrigtl) BRISBANE, September 1. Five thousand sheep were burned to death in a central Queensland bushfire yesterday. The fire in the Emerald district, raged along a 25-mile front and burnt out more than 26,000 acres of rich grazing land. ' One hundred fire fighters battled the blaze until early last night before it was brought under control. Hundreds of miles of fencing were burned down, and graziers said the fire was the worst in Emerald’s history. The sheep which were lost Were in full wool and were to have been shorn within a few weeks.
