Motor-Racing Clark Wins At Brands Hatch
(N.Z. Press Association—Copy ng nt) LONDON, August 27. In a thrilling finish. Jim Clark, a farmer who has rapidly come to the front in grand prix motor racing, today narrowly won the international 199-mile trophy race for Formula II cars at Brands Hatch. Kent. His margin, after almost 70 minutes of high speed driving, was twofifths of a second over the Californian, Dan Gurney. Both drove Lotus cars. Two works Porsches, driven by Joakim Bonnier, of Sweden, and Graham Hill, finished third and fourth 10 seconds behind. George Lawton, of New Zealand, in a Cooper, was fifth in Ihr lOmin 28.2 sec. with 39 of the 40 laps completed. Clark’s time was Ihr 9mln 47.8 sec. His average speed was 91.12 m.p.h. Gurney put up the fastest lap—--92.98 m.p.h. Lawton was one of two New Zealanders in the race. The other, Denis Hulme, retired at the half-way stage. Safety Poster.—ln an effort to reduce accidents in State Forests, the New Zealand Forest Service will distribute a poster amons tramping clubs warning against the dangers of opossum traps, falling trees, and lack of landmarks, and stressing the need for care.—(P.A.)
