CHAPELS FOR HOSPITALS

First To Be Opened In September

The chapel at Sunnyside Hospital is almost completed and will be opened on Saturday, September 17. On Sunday, it will be dedicated the Chapel of' the Good Shepherd. A feature of the chapel, which has cost more than £15,000, will be six or eight windows with themes from the 23rd Psalm and blasted in colour from designs by Mr J. Oakley, lecturer in painting at the University of Canterbury School of Art. Persons in the Ashburton district have given £lOOO for furnishings for the chapel, and an organ has been given by Timaru residents. Chapels for the Burwood and Princess Margaret Hospitals are still being planned. Money has been collected since October when an appeal raised £lOOO more than the target of £35,000. The North Canterbury Hospital Board and the Department of Health have approved a sketch of the Princess Margaret Hospital chapel and sketches of the chapel at Burwood Hospital have been referred to the hospital chaplains' council. * The Nurses’ Christian Fellowship raised £1519 before the hospital chapel appeal, opened.
