FISHERMAN SWEPT FROM ROCKS

(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, July 31. Washed from his foothold by a big wave, while he was fishing off the Cod Rocks, near Westport, on Saturday afternoon, John Meek, aged 51, a painter, of Westport, was fortunate to escape death. He was cfirried into a deep crevasse among the rocks and suffered a fracture of the shoulder. With considerable difficulty, Mr Meek was able to climb up the rocks and reach his car on the road above. He drove about half a mile to a hotel, where medical assistance was called from Westport, and he was later admitted to the Buller Hospital. His condition last evening was reported by the hospital authorities to be “reasonable.”
