S.F. HILL WILL NOT TOUR
Commitments With Army Teams The Canterbury Rugby captain and AH Black forward, S. F. Hill, will not be available to lead Canterbury on its four-match tour of the- North Island. Hill, an army non-commissioned officer, has been advised by the Army Department that he will be required for the inter-district Army and interservices Rugby tournament which win precede the selection of a Combined Services team. This team is to play matches against Golden BayMotueka and Marlborough on August 27 and 31 respectively. Canterbury will commence its tour with a match against North Auckland on August 10. and will not complete the tour until August 21. It is not yet known who will re6 lace Hill as captain of the side. J. totop is viee-captaln. The president of the Canterbury Rugby Union (Mr H. C; Blazey) said last evening that this was a matter that would have to be discussed at tomorrow evening’s meeting of the union’s management committee. To replace Hill, the forward selector (Mr P. K. Rhlnd) has chosen D. Ellison (Christchurch). Ellison was the outstanding forward in the game between Linwood and Christchurch on Saturday. M. R. Taiaroa (University), who was selected as half-back for the Canterbury team to play South Canterbury at Timaru on Wednesday, is now not available because of injury. His place will be filled by B. A. Coulter (Marist). Coulter, in more recent matches, has been playing at second five-eighths. The usual Canterbury half-back. M. F. Whltta. was not available for this game.
