Canterbury Beats r Nelson After a good start in the first round of the A. S. Paterson ’ Trophy match against the Nelson team, the Canterbury team slumped in the pairs. It lost all four pairs, '.put recovered to win six of the singles, draw one, and lose one. Jn the afternoon Canterbury won 11 games to Nelson’s three, to hold the trophy for the seventeenth time, x Canterbury will play Hokitika next Saturday. The teams were : Canterbury.—G. King (captain), L. Qunn, L. Hamilton, A. Williamson, N. Austin, R. , Melhopt, Mrs A. Anderson, and Mrs M. Logie. Nelson.—Miss P. Power (captain), L. McKinnon, G. Sigglekow, J. Gay, M. Watson, J. OPEN TOURNEY Win For Riccarton Twenty-eight qualified out of 85 entries in the Canterbury Indoor Bowling Association’s open tournament concluded last night at the South Brighton Community Centre’s Hall. Quarter-final games resulted:—P. Logan 7, A. Prebble 4; E. Treffiberth 12, E. Taylor 3; M. Yuinovich 9. P. Osborne 8; L. Atkinson 10, W. Logan 3. In the semi-finals, Atkinson beat Yuinovich, 11-2, and Logan beat Temberth. The teams for the final were: St. Martins. Logan, J. Simpson, J.'Wood, and Mrs B. Logan; Riccarton, Atkinson, D. A. F. Smith, Mrs R. Smith, and Mrs M. Atkinson. Steady bowling by Atkinson gave him the lead head by head until the fifth, when he had a 6-0 lead. Logan scored one on the fifth, and with a brilliant last bowl in the sixth made the score 6-4. Good drawing gave Atkinson's rink two on the seventh head, but from a tight eighth head Logan gained the shot, but Atkinson's final shot in the ninth head took him to an 11-5 lead. The tenth was burnt, making the score 11-8. Atkinson scored three at the eleventh, and the final head was burnt, to give Atkinson a 17-8 win.
