Boxing AMATEUR BOXING TOURNEY
Some Keen Bouts At Greymouth
The Greymouth Boxing Association held an all-amateur tournament in the Army Drill Hall on Saturday night, when boys from Christchurch, Ashburton and Reefton took part, in addition to competitors from Greymouth gymnasiums. There were some keen contests, particularly that between J Cummings, of Westport and G Pope of Christchurch. The pair traded hard punches willingly, with Pope doing the cleaner hitting. He was unlucky not to get the decision. The following were the resuts, all the boxers being from Greymouth unless otherwise stated, and all the bouts, but two. being won on points • S Gwatkin (3-11) beat K Rooney (3-8); B. Bell (5-2) beat D Woods (5-3): W. Bolls (Christchurch, 6-3) beat K. Boddy (5-13); M. Williams (Christchurch. 9-4) beat E. Russ (9-6): J. Purton (7st) beat G. Grieve (Christchurch. 8-3); B. Bell (5-8) beat- L. Morris (5-8): J Lee (Westport 4-11) beat M. Burgess (Christchurch. 5-6). the looser being unable to continue after the first round beesse of an arm injury. O. Sheehy (6-6) beat W. Grafton 'Christchurch, 7-2): M. Greaney <7-3) beat M Mclntosh (Ashburton 7-9); M McGuillan (5-8) beat A Grieve (Christchurch 5-12): E. Macdonald (7-2) beat K. Sheehan (Ashhvrton. 8-2): C. Sutton (Ashburton 9-3) beat G. Thompson (9-5). the referee stopping the bout in the second round. J Cummings (Wesboort. 8-9) beat G Pone (Christchurch. 8-9': M. Dennehy, (9-7) beat M. McGregor (Westport. 9-1).
