“I wonder whether any other readers have noticed that, for Saturday’s senior Rugby, all six . matches begin at 2.45, in contrast to the usuaf programme of two or three matches at 1.15 p.m. and the others at 2.45 p.m. No doubt the Canterbury Rugby Union has a reason for this change of policy, but it strikes me that there may be some link-up with the fact that the touring French League side is to play at the Show Grounds at 2.30 the same afternoon. Several of last year’s senior Rugby players are now playing League in Christchurch. Is the Rugby Union trying to prevent its senior players from having a look at the other sport, for some reason or other?—ANTI-BLOOD-SPORT. .
“The union’s committee never considered if,” said the president of the Canterbury Rugby Union (Mr H. C. Blazey). “We are following our normal policy of putting some of the leading lower grade teams on the main grounds in the early games, as an encouragement to them. This policy has nothing whatsoever to do with Rugby League, and it is done every year,” he said.
