Squash Rackets AUSTRALIANS WIN TEST
N.Z. Women’s 3-1 Defeat (New Zeaiuna a ftsoefatton > AUCKLAND. July 29. Australia beat New Zealand by 3 matches to 1 in a women’s squash rackets test, played at the Henderson ' Club courts tonight. Miss A. McKenzie, of Oamaru. won the first match for New Zealand, but the Australians recovered to take the next three matches. The test was reduced to a fourmatch series when one of the Australian team. Miss C. Kent, had to withdraw with a muscle injury. In the opening match. Miss McKenzie outlasted her opponent. Mrs Joan Morey, to win 9-10. 9-2. 9-5, 69, 9-5. Mrs Morey kept the New Zealander scampering round the court, but the latter’s fitness carried her to victory, especially in the last set.
The young Australian, Miss B. Magher, equalled the score when she beat Miss A. Tietjcns in another long match. 3-9. 9-6, 9-5. 4-9. 9-3. The Australian No. 1. Miss L. Wright, gave a brilliant exhibition to beat Miss B. Patterson (Hamilton). in three sets in the major match of the evening. Miss Patterson could win only nine points in three sets, and she went down 3-9. 2-9. 4-9. The fourth Australian, Miss F. Grant, clinched the test by beating Mrs M. Naylor (Remuera), 9-7, 7-9. 9-7, 9-4, in the final match.
