PAPER MILL PROJECT
Company’s Plans Awaited An announcement from the directors of New Zealand Forest Products, Ltd., about what steps the company intended to take in the establishment of a pulp and paper industry in Canterbury is awaited by members of the Pulp and Paper Industry Cqmmittee, which met in Christchurch last evening. A full report by the deputation which waited on the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) and other Cabinet Ministers in Wellington earlier in the month was given at the meeting of the committee. ■ Canterbury had obtained assurances that Sir David Henry, man-aging-director of New Zealand Forest Products, required regarding the supply of trees from the State to meet the gap between private and communal forests. The committee was now anxious to know what steps the company was taking towards establishing a mill in Canterbury, said Mr O. M. Williams, who presided over last evening’s meeting. The invitation to the Minister of Forests (Sir Eruera Tirikatene) to be the guest of the committee for a day’s tour of private and communal forests in Canterbury would be repeated, Mr Williams said.
Appreciation of the work done by the Canterbury Public Relations officer (Mr E. G. Beckett) on the deputation to Mr Nash was expressed at the meeting.
