LOST HANDBAG RETURNED

Woman Recovers £2OO

“I threw my arms around the girl. I was so grateful I wanted to tell the world.” This was how a Christchurch woman last evening described her excitement at having a handbag containing about £2OO returned to her, soon after she had left it in Tattersalls lane.

The woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that she had been shopping in the city. She returned to her car about 8.30 p.m. with an armful of parcels. “I threw the parcels into the car, but must have left my handbag lying on the ground,” she said. She said she travelled some' distance towards her home before she realised that her bag was missing. “I went back to Tattersalls lane—and of course the traffic was about as slow as it could be—but the bag was not there. I went back to ail the shops 1 had been in, but found nothing. One shop assistant said that I was definitely carrying the bag on my arm when I entered the shop I then went to the police, and advertised in the newspaper,” she said. Deciding that nothing more could be done, the woman then returned home Soon after she arrived a young man and a girl drew up in a car and returned the handbag. “I nearly dropped dead when I saw the bag,” said the woman. “I was so thrilled that I did not get the girl’s full name. I gave her a reward.”
