Methodist Women’s Guild

Representatives from all parts of North Canterbury attended the recent annual meeting of the Methodist Women’s Guild Fellowship in the Durham street Church. The morning communion service was taken by the Rev. H. K. Brown and the Rev. R. S. Andrews. During the afternoon session, the Rev. W. F. Ford, field director of the Christian Education Department, Wellington, spoke on the proposed amalgamation of women’s groups in the Methodist Church of New Zealand.

Mrs R. Ingram, of Oxford, sang a sacred solo. The following delegates were appointed to attend the Guild Fellowship conference to be held in Invercargill in November: Mrs N. G. Dailey (president), Mrs W. D. M. Jamieson (secretary); Mrs V. Kenny (Clarence road Guild); Mrs E. M. Osborne (Central Mission Guild); Mrs E. Wooster (Darfield Guild). Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mrs N. G. Dailey; vice-presidents, Mesdames G. Bielby, J. Metson, O. Burnet, H. Matthews; secretary, Mrs W. D. M. Jamieson; assistant secretary, Mrs L. McKeague; treasurer, Mrs J. Watts; accommodation officer, Mrs S. Firth; National Council of Women delegate, Mrs V. Kenny; country representatives, Mesdames P. V. Birkett (Leeston), H. M. Ridgen (Greendale), R. Ingram (Oxford); organiser, Mrs S. Hodgson; pianist, Miss Ellis; synod representative, Mrs N. G. Dailey. Mrs G. E. Thorpe, retiring treasurer, was presented with a gift token in recognition of her services to the Fellowship as treasurer over a period of years.
